And John Travolta gets stabbed in the hand…a fact that should raise a smile with masseur’s around the world.

Just the premise alone is ridiculously cool enough to get me watching, but the trailer promises some jumps, scares and guffaws…and it doesn’t seem to shy away from the blood and gore either. I’m a sucker for shark movies so I’m definitely watching it, but I wonder if it can attract a similar sized audience (and box office) that the Piranha remake attracted.

Just listen to him growl that line: “Put your trousers on, you’re knicked” – classic Sweeney!

If this is just as good as the first one then I’ll be happy but, honestly, how can this not be 1000% more awesome just based on the cast alone? Once again CAN…NOT…WAIT!!

This is truly shaping up to be the best year for movies since….the Eighties?

Got to love Glove & Boots

The brilliant Peephole Circus have condensed the first movie down into just one glorious minute. Even the most time impoverished among you can surely spare 60 measly seconds to re-cap one of the greatest SF movies ever made (admittedly probably not in a format Sir Ridley would approve of though)?

Obviously Gorillaz have been playing around with this kind of stuff for a while now, check out their “live” performance from the 2006 Grammy awards with Madonna  here. And Alexander McQueen did something similar with Kate Moss when she couldn’t make one of his shows (no doubt during her “Pete Docherty & drugs are great!” phase).

The possibilities that the technology opens up are pretty staggering/frightening depending on your point of view. But one thing it wasn’t is a hologram, it was just a high definition digital projection, which you can read more about here. Maybe technology will advance even further though and the Rolling Stones will still be touring as holograms in 2050 though (apart from Keith, of course, as he will still be alive and looking exactly as he does now).

Okay, so maybe I should write more than that.

Go see it…RIGHT NOW!

Honestly, you don’t want to read a spoiler-filled plot synopsis here because the less you know going in the more you’ll probably enjoy the movie. Just know that Marvel’s strategy has paid off massively and Joss Whedon has just smashed it out of the park with this flick.

The heavy lifting done by the respective hero’s solo movies in terms of set up and characterisation means The Avengers is pretty much flat-out action from the word go, peppered with sparky one-liners and small characters moments. Yes, the movie is plot driven, but it’s a really EPIC plot and all of the characters get a moment to shine. Downey Jr has some awesome zingers as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury actually gets to do stuff at last and the Hulk totally owns the last 20 minutes of the film. If I’m being picky about anything Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye seems a little under-developed, but there’s a pretty good reason for that for a fair chunk of the movie.

The Avengers has set the bar very, very high for the rest of this summer’s blockbusters. While I’m dying to see both Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises I honestly don’t think I’ll have more fun at the cinema this year than I did while watching Avengers. It’s that good.

Now, do like I said and GO SEE IT!

What am I talking about? Only the below video and photo’s which shows a Gold Orb Weaver spider (reportedly to be roughly the size of an adults hand) eating a 1.5 metre Brown Tree snake alive?!

This happened in Freshwater, Queensland – the same state that I live in! And I don’t care how bloody big the state is, it isn’t large enough to accommodate me and this walking, creeping, biting nightmare?!!

Why are you putting your hand near it you fool?!?! Are you insane?!

And it happens more often than you think! The image below shows a Golden Orb Waver eating a Chestnut–breasted Mannikin (a type of native-Australian finch) up near Cairns in 2008. How long before humans appear on the menu?!

Well, at least that’s what this new trailer for God of War: Ascension looks like to me. For the record Clive Barker has nothing to do with this new God of War game, but that video looks far more like a promo for a new Hellraiser book/movie more than anything else. I mean, that’s a lot of blood to be throwing around?!

Not this…

There are definitely some…interesting combinations and unexpected results, to say the least.

Chris Nolan’s Inception showed that mainstream audiences are more than willing to check out intelligent, well-crafted SF when it’s done well and I’m predicting they embrace Looper in the same way. At least they will if there’s any justice in the world. Inception is an easy association to make when watching the Looper trailer, as Joseph Gordon Levitt stars in both, but I’m also thinking this has a similar vibe to  Nacho Vigalondo’s TimeCrimes as well.

I love me some time travel movies, so I’ll definitely be checking this out when it hits cinemas in a few months time.
